The market town of Mauterndorf is located in the Lungau Biosphere Park in the land of Salzburg. The central location in Austria enables quick and uncomplicated arrival by car, public transport, but also by plane for long-distance travelers.
Car
The easiest way to reach Mauterndorf from the north and south is via the A10 Tauernautobahn, exit St. Michael. Coming from the south and east, take the B95 via Murau and Tamsweg.
Bus & train
The easiest way to plan your journey by public transport is via ÖBB. The best way to reach Salzburg's Lungau from the north (from Salzburg) is by post bus. From the south you can reach Tamsweg & Mauterndorf with the “Murtalbahn” and the Postbus.

The nearest airports are Salzburg Airport (1.5h), Klagenfurt Airport (1.5h) and Vienna Airport (3h). To continue your journey to Mauterndorf, use public transport or a taxi company.
